I never intended to post this often following Hurricane Ian. This was meant to be a place for updates for family and friends while we go through the repair process.
Who knew that the days would just keep getting worse and worse? To recap:
- Hurricane Ian hit in September
- Contractor worked on our roof at the beginning of October
- November 3rd we got more water in our unit than during Hurricane Ian. The contractor works on the roof again.
- November 10th we had more water in our unit than the previous two times. The contractor worked on the roof again.
Now it’s November 11th, and we just went through the WORST of our water intrusion — and it’s not even raining outside!
At 6:10am, with dehumidifiers and air scrubbers running to prevent mold, we discovered that our entire living room, hallway, bedrooms, and master closets have two inches of water.
Having gone through this twice in the past week, we knew exactly what to do. Call Security, get the shop vacs going, and don’t expect any help until later in the morning.
We posted the above video on the community’s private Facebook group because that brought neighborly help yesterday; however, it was deleted quickly.
From 6:15 am to 7:58 am, we filled 12-gallon shop vacs with water 34 times.
After dumping 400 gallons of water over our balcony, SouthernCAT came to the rescue with more extensive pumping equipment and finished the job by 10:00 am.
Some people pay money to fall asleep to the sound of water running. After 20 hours of late night / early morning mitigation on three occasions in one week — we’d be happy never to hear this sound again.
We cannot wait for this roof to be patched, even if temporarily!
