If you’ve ever dealt with a Condominium Board, you know the struggle is real. But fear not! The Office of the Condominium Ombudsman is here to save the day.

Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Spencer Hennings as Florida’s Condominium Ombudsman in July 2020. But what the heck is an Ombudsman? Essentially, his mission is to make life better for Florida Condominium Owners. He’s like a superhero, swooping in to save the day with prompt, professional, and courteous service.

So, what do they actually do?

The Ombudsman acts as a liaison between the Division of Business & Professional Regulation, Unit Owners, Boards Of Directors, Board Members, Community Association Managers, and other affected parties.

One of the best things they offer is Election Monitoring. Because let’s be real, Condo Board Elections can be a hot mess. When unit owners are worried about their Association’s Election, the Ombudsman can appoint a monitor to ensure everything runs smoothly.

With our election next week, more than 60 households in our community have decided they want a fair and transparent election. As a result, a representative from the state of Florida will oversee our election process.

Just a friendly reminder, our Board President reported two weeks ago that last year, 12% of all election ballots were disqualified and could not be counted. It’s safe to say that having a high percentage of disqualified ballots is nothing to be proud of.

So, please ensure you follow the instructions with this year’s ballot. Confirm you are the designated person in your household to vote. And remember to get your ballot into the office before 1:30 pm this Tuesday, March 7th.
